PicoDrive (Sega Genesis/MegaDrive Emulator)

PicoDrive (Sega Genesis/MegaDrive Emulator)

Download

PicoDrive is a great open source Sega Genesis/MegaDrive emulator. With PicoDrive you can play your favorite Sega games like Sonic, Alterted Beast and Splatterhouse! The graphics are very nice and the game play is pretty smooth. Some ROMs may not work 100% with PicoDrive, but there’s only one way to find out.

I suggest turning off the Sound because on some games to prevent buggy behavior.

The CAB file installs a PocketSNES shortcut in Start > Games.

You can download Sega ROMs from RomNation, RomWorld, or just Google the term “Sega Roms”. I suggest making a special folder on your Storage Card or in /My Documents/ that contains all your Sega ROM files.

Note: You will not be able to download ROMs directly to your smartphone using PocketIE (Mobile Internet Explorer). PocketIE supports very few mime-types/file extensions for download and ROM files aren’t included. I suggest using Opera Mobile to download the ROM files directly to you Smartphone, or download them to your computer and copy them over to your Smartphone using ActiveSync/Bluetooth/etc.

Disclaimer: Please verify the legality of any ROM file you download - some ROMs may be legal to download, others may not be.

  3. Judge Says:

I am sorry for all the confusion as well as misinformation. I can only get the roms to work if they are not in a folder on the storage card. COMPLETELY and utterly disregard my last two posts. I will have david delete ASAP!

  4. david Says:

Judge - all set. ive deleted the two posts you specified.

  5. Judge Says:

thanks… anyone have a solution to using the roms in a new folder? I can’t get it to work… :(

  6. david Says:

i was able to launch splatter house 3 from /storage card/roms/sega/ …… what games are you trying to launch that are giving you problems?

  7. Judge Says:

it’s all of them. I create new folders and what not, yet when I go to open it from the emulator it tries opening the folder. I don’t really care, but it’s just somewhat confusing.

  8. david Says:

    Judge,

Are your ROMs on a Storage Card or on the Device?

You are saying when you open PicoDrive, select “File > Load Rom”, and then try to open the folder containing the ROMs using the D-Pad Select button, PicoDrive actually tries to open the folder as if it were a ROM?

Can you give me the full path to the ROMs that is giving you trouble?

Also - do you have PocketNES installed? Is it giving you the same problems? (They both use the TGetFile.DLL which provides that file system browsing interface)

  9. John77 Says:

Ok I downloaded it but how do I open it now? I can find it in program files but don’t know how to open it.

  10. John77 Says:

Also when I went to download a rom it told me the file could not be viewed on the device so im not sure if it even downloaded

  11. david Says:

    John77,

You will not be able to download ROMs directly to your smrtphone using PocketIE (Mobile Internet Explorer). PocketIE supports very few mime-types/file extensions for download and ROM files aren’t included. I suggest using Opera Mobile to download the ROM files directly to you Smartphone, or download them to your computer and copy them over to your Smartphone using ActiveSync/Bluetooth/etc.

  12. John77 Says:

I tried using opera to download it directly to my phone but when I go to download it says it must open ie to download the file then when it does it tells me the file cannot be viewed on the device.

  13. david Says:

    John77,

I suggest downloading the ROMs to your computer and copying them over to your Smartphone… thats what I did.

  14. John77 Says:

Ok I know why Opera wouldn’t let me.It’s because I am using opera mini, the free version. I don’t have the paid Opera Mobile.

    Thanks david!

  15. John77 Says:

Well I got the roms downloaded and they work I just cant figure out how to play the games. I don’t know what the keys are for them on my phone! So they’re basically not doin any good.

    Any suggestions?

  16. david Says:

    John77,

Define your own key bindings in PicoDrive .. (Open PicoDrive > Options > Keys…)

  18. david Says:
